A Glass of Milk

We can make a difference

It’s not about how much money we have or what we own, but what we do with what we have and how many people we can help along the way. If we can make a difference to just a few people in our lifetime then it has been worth it. This story describes the impact of making a difference very well.

A Glass of Milk

One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry. He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door. Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water.

She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, “How much do I owe you?”

“You don’t owe me anything,” she replied. “Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness.”

He said….. “Then I thank you from my heart.” As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been ready to give up and quit.

Years later that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease. Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation.

When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes. Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room.

Dressed in his doctor’s gown he went in to see her. He recognized her at once. He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day he gave special attention to the case.

After a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval.

He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally, she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill.

She read these words…..

“Paid in full with one glass of milk”

(Signed)
Dr. Howard Kelly

Tears of joy flooded her eyes as her happy heart prayed: “Thank You.

Think of others

When you focus on others and not yourself good things start to happen. If you don’t currently do this try it and see what starts to happen.

It’s been an exciting week

This has been a lovely week where I have delivered my Mental Resilience Masterclass to a wonderful company called The Fiducia Group. I first met the MD Anthony a couple of years ago and he has been receiving my blogs ever since.

Over time he has enjoyed the blogs and finally felt that a session with his staff would be beneficial. The staff really engaged with the session and the feedback was excellent. What a great atmosphere and the staff were exceptional.

Rolls Royce

I also ran yet another Masterclass for Rolls Royce and what a great session this was. I love working with Rolls Royce, the staff are always open to new ideas and engage really well.

The feedback was excellent, and I was told at the end that they would be purchasing a book for everyone of the 66 attendees who attended the session which was a very pleasant surprise. I have ordered the books and will be signing each one and hand delivering them myself.

Champions – Speaking and Events Agency

I also had a meeting with Matthew Hayes the MD of Speaking Agency Champions who I have known for about three years and he spoke to me about some exciting potential for us this year. It was also great to have another coaching session with my client in Dublin which went really well.

Quote of the Week:

“One of the most difficult things to give away is kindness, it usually comes back to you.” Anonymous

Thoughts for the week.

1. Have you gone out of your way to help anyone recently?
2. It could be financially, your time, advice, a listening ear etc.
3. When you help someone without anything in return you receive back an unbelievable feeling which you cannot get in any other way.
4. Be aware of people around you and people you know and reach out if you can.
5. If we can make a difference to just one person, then it has all been worth it.

Well that’s it for this week have a wonderful weekend and stay positive

Warm regards

John
