HOW TO DEVELOP WORLD CLASS MENTAL RESILIENCE
Motivation
"The state or condition of being motivated or having a
strong reason to act or accomplish something"
WHY DO WE CRAVE MOTIVATION?
We need a reason or reasons to accomplish things in life and the bigger the challenge, the bigger the motivation required.
One way I like to describe motivation as a driver to get something done is like this:
“if the reason you are doing something is bigger than the pain of doing it, you will do it. If the reason isn’t bigger than the pain of doing it you will never do it”
It is easy to make a cup of tea because the pleasure of enjoying the tea far outweighs the pain of putting the kettle on, brewing a tea bag and pouring some milk. However, it’s a completely different kettle of fish (excuse the pun) when the bedroom needs decorating, or the garage needs cleaning out and the floor painting, or the tax returns need completing.
People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing. That’s why we recommend it daily

MOTIVATION IN ACTION...Andre Agassi
There are many levels of motivation and the higher the motivation, the easier it is to take action and the more we get done. Some famous people have said some very interestingthings about motivation.
Andre Agassi is one of the greatest tennis players of all time and one of the few tennis players to hold all four majors in one year. He had great motivation to succeed and his motivation was the fear of loss. In this excerpt from an article, he clearly describes his motivation: It is 320 yards up the hill Andre Agassi calls “Magic Mountain” on the outskirts of Las Vegas. The desert is on one side; a gated community on the other. It’s Christmas Eve 1999, 38 degrees. Following two hours in the weight room, Agassi sprints up Magic Mountain 14 times. As cars pass by, on the way to holiday dinners, Agassi is sweating, his lungs burning. There’s a look of pain in his eyes. Even Gil Reyes, Agassi’s personal trainer since 1990 and the only other person present, wonders what’s driving this man. ‘I actually stopped him to ask: ‘What’s making you go?’ Reyes said. ‘He said, ‘Gil, it’s just something inside. This is my time. If I don’t do it now, I’ll regret it so much. That’s what it’s all about, eh, Gil? No regrets?’
Being ‘motivated’ means taking action and never giving up…
You just can’t beat the person who never gives up

HOW DO YOU FIND AND MAINTAIN MOTIVATION?
You have to discover and focus on the things you desire the most in life. These goals or aims in life give you the reason to get on and do the things you need to do, each day.
I have a full 7-Step Motivation Method, but here are the top three to get you started.
Go through this process and it will help you understand what you want, what you value, who you want to help and therefore why you need to be motivated each day:
1.
Visualise in your mind what you want to achieve or who you want to help. Do this with emotion, using all the senses of taste, touch, sound, vision and smell. Experience the feelings of having achieved what you want to do.
2.
Ignore any negative voices either from people or in your head, otherwise you will give up before you have completed what you want to achieve
3.
Find the reason this is important to you. Ask yourself what you will get out of achieving this. Then when you have answered that, ask again to get deeper, and then ask again to get to the real benefit to you. This will likely be one of your core values. Write up the list of reasons in a document you can refer to later.
Getting started using these 3 simple steps and reading them every day, will start to make you feel more positive and motivated to take action.
