I had the pleasure of delivering Masterclass 3 to the fantastic Rolls-Royce Quality Assurance and Certification team, led by Steve Roebuck, this week. This was the fourth masterclass I’ve delivered to Steve’s outstanding team, and once again, the feedback was incredibly positive.
During the session, we explored a range of techniques, including practical tools to help you get back to sleep if you wake up too early, as well as a powerful confidence strategy that has transformed my own life. This technique helped me go from avoiding public speaking to confidently presenting on stage to hundreds of people.
Vision Board
We finished by diving into the process of creating a Vision Board – a powerful and visual alternative to traditional goal-setting. Rather than simply writing goals down, you bring them to life through imagery. As the saying goes, “A picture paints a thousand words,” and visualisation can have a truly remarkable impact on your focus, mindset, and motivation.
I’ve a Vision Board – or, as I prefer to call it, a Dream Board – and I’ve been using one since my decorating days over 12 years ago. Back then, life looked very different. I was in serious debt, single, living with my mum, and earning a living as a painter and decorator.
Fast forward to today, and many of the things I once only dreamed about have become reality.
There’s real science behind the power of a Vision Board, which I’ll explore in a future blog. But what I can say is this: When you consistently focus on your goals and dreams, something shifts. Your subconscious mind starts working behind the scenes – and suddenly, things begin to show up in your life in the most surprising ways.
Tecman UK
I also had the privilege of delivering another session to the fantastic team at Tecman Advanced Materials in Leamington Spa this week. This was Masterclass 4: The Productivity Breakthrough – a session that’s genuinely transforming lives.
The strategies we covered are simple yet powerful, designed to help individuals achieve more in less time and with less stress. A key tool is the Eisenhower Matrix, which helps identify critical tasks, while the Ivy Lee Method brings laser-like focus to completing those tasks.
We also explored how you start and end your day – both crucial to managing your inner Chimp (your emotions). If you want to fully enjoy your evenings and weekends, keeping your Chimp happy and settled is essential.
High Energy
Finally, we explored the importance of understanding our natural energy rhythms – and how most of us experience our highest energy levels in the morning. This makes it the ideal time to tackle your most important tasks. When you align your to-do list with your energy levels, you can dramatically boost your productivity.
I experienced this first-hand when I wanted to expand the reach of my Mental Resilience Masterclass after a successful delivery at Derby College. My goal was to take it to colleges across the country.
We built a database of 200 colleges – but then came the challenging part: calling each one to obtain the contact details of the Head of Human Resources.
I kept putting it off.
I’ll be honest – I dreaded it. So I’d put it off until around 3 pm, and by then, I was tired. I’d make a couple of half-hearted calls, then give up. It felt like a real slog.
Then I discovered the science behind high-energy windows – typically between 6:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. So, I blocked out time at 10:00 a.m. and gave it a try.
To my surprise, I was on the phone non-stop for two hours. I had energy, focus, and momentum. And within a week, I’d completed the entire task. It was a complete eye-opener, and since then, I’ve made it a habit to schedule demanding tasks during my peak energy time. It’s been a total game-changer.
Thoughts for the week;
- When is your peak energy, and are you using it well?
- Is your vision for the future clear and visible?
- What’s one task you keep delaying – and why?
- Do you have a system in place to stay focused each day?
- Are you letting your Chimp run the show?
- Do you finish your day feeling satisfied or shattered?
Well, that’s it for this week. Have a wonderful weekend, and keep believing.
Warm regards
John
