This week, I had the pleasure of running my Productivity Breakthrough masterclass for a new client, WRS (World Recruitment Services), in Altrincham, Cheshire. Working with new clients is always a great experience, and I want to thank Adrian Sharpe, a Vistage Chairman, for allowing me to inspire and support the WRS team.
The session went really well, with the team showing lots of energy and interest throughout the two-and-a-half-hour workshop. At the end, I shared a special section on self-belief and my Confidence Technique—a method that has completely changed my life.
For much of my early life, I struggled with feeling nervous and unsure of myself because of negative school experiences. These experiences made me believe I couldn’t handle pressure.
Public speaking was my biggest fear. I recently read that it’s the top fear for most people, even more than the fear of death. This really hit home for me because, at one point, I couldn’t imagine ever standing in front of a large audience, let alone enjoying it, and now I do!
One moment changed everything.
That transformative moment came when Harry Dunne, a radio sales director at TFM Radio, introduced me to the Confidence Technique. This simple yet powerful approach completely shifted my mindset.
To my amazement, I went from being a bundle of nerves to feeling confident in any situation. It was a revelation, proving that our limitations are often self-imposed and can be dismantled with the right tools.
Today, sharing this technique with others is one of the most fulfilling parts of my work. It is genuinely inspiring to watch people unlock their potential and see their lives change dramatically. Witnessing the ripple effect of self-belief is a joy, and I’m excited to continue empowering individuals worldwide.
Christmas.
Christmas is a time for coming together with loved ones. In our busy lives, we often don’t get enough chances to connect with family and friends. Christmas gives us a reason to pause and spend time together. Whether it’s sharing a meal, playing games, or simply chatting, these moments bring us closer and strengthen our relationships.
Being with loved ones during Christmas is also great for our mental health. The love and support we feel help ease loneliness and make us happier. Laughing, sharing stories, and enjoying activities like decorating or baking together reduce stress and create a sense of joy. These simple moments remind us of the importance of togetherness.
Christmas is also about making lasting memories. These moments, big or small, become stories we cherish. For children, they create a sense of tradition and security. For adults, they remind us of the value of relationships and the joy of being with those we care about. Shared memories build stronger bonds that last a lifetime.
Improving our health.
Spending time with loved ones during Christmas can even improve our physical health. Feeling connected reduces stress, boosts well-being, and can even help us sleep better. Being surrounded by love and support leaves us feeling healthier and more fulfilled.
In the end, Christmas isn’t just about gifts or decorations. It’s about connecting with the people we love, sharing laughter, and creating joyful memories that remind us of the importance of family and friends.
Nothing is more important.
Relationships are essential to life because they bring us happiness and fulfilment. As social beings, we need connections to thrive. The bonds we share with others give us emotional support, purpose, and meaning. When life gets tough, our relationships help us feel safe and strong, giving us the courage to face challenges.
I’ve never heard of anyone on their deathbed asking to see their bank statement or their prized possessions. They always want their family and friends to be with them.
Good relationships also keep us healthy in both body and mind. Studies show that being connected with others lowers stress, reduces the chance of depression, and helps us live longer, healthier lives. Beyond health, relationships help us learn important life skills like kindness, patience, and good communication. They challenge us to grow and become better people.
No amount of money or success can replace the joy of having people who care about us. Relationships bring richness to our lives that achievements alone cannot provide. They remind us that life’s true value is love, laughter, and shared moments with those who matter most.
Relationships ultimately create lasting memories, shape how we are remembered, and make life deeply meaningful.
Not Just for Christmas
As we prepare for 2025, let’s take some time to think about the people in our lives and try to stay in touch more often. Everyone is busy, so reaching out might take a little effort, but the rewards are worth it. A quick message, a short call, or a meeting up can bring so much happiness to both them and us.
This is something I focused on this year, and I can’t tell you how much joy it has brought me. I’ve stayed connected with people I’ve met through my work, and some of these connections have grown into real friendships. These relationships remind me that life isn’t just about work or achievements—it’s about the people we care about and the bonds we build.
As the new year begins, let’s try to strengthen these connections. Staying in touch doesn’t have to be just for special occasions like Christmas—it can be something we do all year round.
Ultimately, life is about creating and nurturing relationships, making them meaningful.
Thoughts for the week.
- How can I balance work and nurture personal connections?
- Which relationships have shaped my life, and how can I strengthen them?
- What meaningful moments of connection stood out this year?
- What commitments can I make to prioritise relationships in the new year?
Well, that’s it for this week. Have a wonderful Christmas break, and see you next week. I’ll be a bit heavier but much happier!
Warm regards
John
