It’s been another fantastic week, highlighted by the delivery of Masterclass 2 to the incredible team at Springfield Training. I always enjoy working with this group, and we had a great time exploring relaxation and visualisation techniques while making learning both engaging and fun!
Over recent years, I have adopted the habit of using affirmations because they help me rewire my subconscious mind, build my confidence, and create positive changes in my life. They strengthen my beliefs, thoughts, and actions, shaping the way I see and experience the world.
I have experienced a change in my confidence and self-belief, which has helped me through some very difficult times, including COVID-19, when I lost all my business and had to start again at age 66.
Your brain is amazing the facts are pretty breathtaking!
1. It Contains Around 86 Billion Neurons
The brain is packed with about 86 billion nerve cells (neurons) that constantly communicate.
Each neuron can form up to 10,000 connections, leading to trillions of neural pathways.
2. It’s Faster Than a Supercomputer
The brain can process information in just 13 milliseconds—faster than a blink!
It can make quintillions of calculations per second—far beyond what any supercomputer can achieve.
The Power of the Subconscious Mind
The subconscious mind influences nearly every aspect of life. Here are some key facts about its impact:
1. It Controls 95% of Your Life
Most of what we do—habits, emotions, and decision-making—happens automatically. The conscious mind only controls about 5% of our thoughts and actions.
2. It Processes Information Rapidly
While the conscious mind handles 40–50 bits per second, the subconscious processes 11 million bits per second, explaining instinctive reactions and gut feelings.
3. It Stores Everything You’ve Experienced
Even things you’ve forgotten—like a childhood scent—are stored in your subconscious, making it a mental archive of your life.
4. It Shapes Emotions and Beliefs
Many beliefs, especially those formed in childhood, shape our worldview. Positive affirmations and mindset shifts can reprogram limiting beliefs.
5. It Learns Through Repetition
The subconscious reinforces repeated thoughts and habits—whether good or bad. That’s why forming new habits takes consistent effort.
6. It Responds to Your Self-Talk
Negative self-talk reinforces limiting beliefs, while positive affirmations reshape the mind for success.
How Affirmations Work
Affirmations are short, powerful statements designed to rewire the subconscious, boost confidence, and drive positive change. People can shift their thoughts, behaviours, and emotions toward their goals by repeating them.
Since the subconscious doesn’t differentiate between real and imagined experiences, affirmations—primarily when spoken with conviction—help the brain accept new beliefs as truth.
Why People Use Affirmations
1. To Build Confidence & Self-Esteem
Affirmations like “I am confident and capable” replace self-doubt with self-belief.
2. To Shift Negative Thoughts
Since most thoughts are repetitive, affirmations interrupt negative patterns and reinforce growth-focused thinking.
3. To Reduce Stress & Anxiety
Calming affirmations like “I am at peace” shift focus from fear to control, reducing stress.
4. To Improve Focus & Motivation
Affirmations like “I am productive and focused” align thoughts with goals and motivation.
5. To Reinforce New Habits
The subconscious thrives on repetition. Affirmations help strengthen new habits like exercising or healthy eating.
6. To Attract Opportunities & Success
The brain’s Reticular Activating System (RAS) filters information based on focus. Saying “I attract success” helps recognise and seize opportunities.
Using Affirmations Effectively
- Use Present Tense → Say them as if they’re already true (“I am successful” vs. “I will be successful”).
- Repeat Daily → The more you repeat them, the stronger their effect.
- Speak with Emotion → Feeling the affirmation strengthens its impact.
- Visualise Success → Imagining the outcome makes it more real.
- Write Them Down → Writing helps reinforce them in the subconscious.
Examples of Powerful Affirmations
- For Confidence: I believe in myself and my abilities.
- For Success: I attract success and abundance effortlessly.
- For Anxiety: I am calm, centred, and in control.
- For Motivation: I have the power to create the life I desire.
Final Thought
Affirmations are more than words—they reprogram the subconscious mind. They reshape thoughts, emotions, and behaviours when used consistently, leading to real change and success.
Thoughts for the week.
- What area of life—confidence, stress, success—would you improve with affirmations?
- What’s one belief about yourself you wish you could change?
- What’s one area where you’d like to feel more confident?
- What’s one small, positive statement you could tell yourself today?
Well, that’s it for this week. Have a wonderful weekend, and keep believing.
Warm regards
John
