This week, I had the pleasure of returning to Rolls-Royce to deliver Masterclasses 3 and 4 to a fantastic group.
Two weeks earlier, I had delivered Masterclasses 1 and 2, which were very well received. It’s always rewarding to come back into a room where people are already applying what they’ve learned. There was a real shift in energy, more openness, more reflection, and, importantly, more action.
Rolls-Royce is a key client of mine, and I work with different teams across the business on mental resilience and productivity. Manager Jake Frith identified a clear need within his team to strengthen resilience under pressure and improve productivity in a demanding environment, and committed to all four masterclasses.
That commitment is where real change begins.
Masterclass 3 – Strengthening the Mind
In Masterclass 3, we focused on confidence, mindset and the power of the inner voice.
We explored how:
- Your inner voice shapes your outcomes
- You can reframe negative situations into opportunities
- Visualising success through a Vision Board activates your focus and direction
- The Reticular Activating System (RAS) helps you notice opportunities aligned with your goals
One of the most powerful moments is when people realise:
“I don’t have to believe every thought I think.”
When you change your inner dialogue, you begin to change your results.
Masterclass 4 – Taking Back Control of Your Time
Masterclass 4 then moved into productivity and control.
We looked at:
- The Eisenhower Matrix and focusing on what is truly important
- Managing the Inner Chimp to reduce stress
- Eliminating distractions and procrastination
- The power of deep work and working in high-energy periods
- How to reclaim evenings and weekends
A key message here was simple but powerful:
Being busy is not the same as being productive.
When people start focusing on important, not just urgent work, everything begins to shift – performance improves, stress reduces, and clarity increases.
A Real-Life Story – The Power of Focus
This work reminded me of Warren Buffett and his pilot, Mike Flint.
Buffett asked Mike to write down his top 25 career goals. Then he told him to circle his top 5.
Mike assumed the other 20 were still important.
Buffett said:
“No. The other 20 are your ‘avoid at all costs’ list.”
Why?
Because they distract you from what truly matters.
That’s exactly what we see in organisations. People are capable and hardworking, but often pulled in too many directions.
Clarity creates performance.
3 Key Takeaways
1. Your Inner Voice Drives Your Performance
What you say to yourself matters. Change the language, change the outcome.
2. Focus on What’s Important, Not Just Urgent
The biggest breakthroughs happen in Box 2 – planning, thinking, improving.
3. Small Changes Create Big Results
Better habits, better focus, better conversations – these compound over time.
Final Reflection
What stood out most this week wasn’t just the content; it was the people.
Open. Honest. Willing to improve.
That’s where growth happens.
Jake decided to invest in his team. The team showed up fully. And when those two things come together, you create something powerful.
Because resilience and productivity are not just skills.
They are habits.
And habits, practised daily, change everything.
Thoughts for the Week
- Where is your time really going each day
- What are you saying to yourself when things get tough?
- What is one important task you’ve been putting off?
Well, that’s it for this week.
Have a wonderful week ahead, and keep believing.
Warm regards
John
