Special People in Your Life

There are times in your life when you meet someone and there is an immediate connection. I can’t explain it, I’m not sure why it happens but it does.

In my life I have met hundreds of people but there are some who have stood out and have become special in my life. They are scattered across the world, and they know who they are.

Over the past few years, I have mentioned quite a few of these people in my blogs and I have met some recently who I will mention in future blogs. I am always touched when these connections happen, and it gladdens my heart.

Lake District Estates

One of these people is David Little, the CEO of Lake District Estates. I first met David when I spoke at a Vistage event in Manchester. Vistage is the world’s largest and most comprehensive executive coaching organization for small and midsize businesses. These groups meet monthly across the country and have speakers deliver a session to their members.

It was at such an event that David saw me speak and we connected straight away. He liked what he saw so he invited me to deliver the session to his senior leadership team at Lake District Estates. This was very well received so he rolled it out to the rest of his staff.

A new Masterclass

Yesterday I returned from a wonderful trip to the Lakes where I delivered a new Masterclass to his Leadership Team, and I spent a lovely couple of nights in a beautiful accommodation overlooking a Marina. They own a lot of accommodation across the Lakes, and they give me a choice when I come up.

The feedback was great, and I will be back at least three times this year to deliver more sessions. I will also be coaching some of his staff who want to improve their Mental Resilience. In addition to this I will be recording some personal video messages just for his staff to inspire and motivate them.

David and I put this package together and I am excited to be working with him and his team. This makes it very special as I am getting to know them and they are getting to know me.

It’s the journey

I mentioned in my Masterclass that it’s not just the destination which is important but also the journey. We need to enjoy the journey. I make it my mission to enjoy my days whether they be working on my laptop or travelling and delivering my sessions.

It is so important that we enjoy parts of each day because none of us know how long we have left on this earth. This is the truth albeit a touch morbid. The reality is that any day that goes by without us having some pleasure or positivity is a wasted day.

My near fatal car accident 5 years ago made me realise how fragile life is and it was following that crash that my mindset completely changed and I was determined to be happy every day even if it was for short periods of time.

The power of Mindfulness and Gratitude

This is when I started to use Mindfulness to capture moments of beauty and joy in the day. You have to purposely focus your attention on something around you to lose yourself in it for 30 seconds or so and during that time you are in a state of peace.

There is no stress when you are mindful, you only experience stress when you think about the past or the future.

I also use Gratitude daily, often many times a day. This changes the way I feel. What you think is what you feel so if you are thinking negative thoughts you will feel bad but if you change your thoughts to things you are grateful for you will immediately feel better.

Dopamine and Serotonin

As you dwell on the things you are grateful for you release Dopamine and Serotonin into your bloodstream. These are pleasure hormones, and you can’t help but feel good from the inside instantly!

By using Gratitude and Mindfulness I have many times each day when I feel good. This is what I mean by enjoying the journey. Life may be tough and you may be going through a very difficult time right now but even in this terrible time you can still use these techniques to help you feel a bit better.

My mother died recently, and I used these techniques to pick myself up and they worked even in this most difficult time.

One of my favourite clients

Lake District Estates are one of my favourite companies and David is one of my favourite clients. I am blessed to be running a business where I meet such amazing people who look after me so well and it really does feel like I am on holiday when I go to the Lakes to deliver these sessions.

I am very excited about the year ahead and to see who I meet in the future. Personal connections and relationships are so important, and they give life meaning and a deep sense of gratitude.

Thoughts for the week

  1. Who in your life are you grateful for?
  2. Take a moment to think of all the people who are special in your life and you have a special connection with.
  3. It may be helpful to write the names down and you will be surprised how many there are.
  4. This week reflect on these relationships and what they mean to you and how they make you feel.

Well, that’s it for this week, have a wonderful weekend and keep believing.

Warm regards

John
