The Powerful Lessons I Shared with a Rolls-Royce Team

This week, I had the privilege of working with a new team at Rolls-Royce. The design engineers, led by Tooling Manager Jake Frith, were an outstanding group, curious, thoughtful, and fully engaged in the learning process.

I delivered Masterclass 1 and Masterclass 2, and together we explored some deceptively simple but incredibly powerful techniques:

  • The power of gratitude
  • How mental resilience improves both mental and physical health
  • Mindful breathing and mindful observation
  • The influence of the subconscious mind
  • Practical ways to manage stress
  • The ability to relax and visualise positive outcomes
  • And how to find the positive in every negative situation

What always amazes me is how incredibly simple these techniques are. They are simple, practical, and accessible to everyone. Yet when people actually pause, practice them, and apply them consistently, the results can be transformational.

At the end of the session, the team’s feedback was incredibly positive. You could see the shift in the room, people feeling calmer, more focused, and more optimistic about how they handle pressure.

And that reminded me of a story.

A Story of Perspective

A few years ago, I read about a nurse who had spent decades working in palliative care, supporting people during the final days of their lives.

She had spoken to hundreds of people in their last weeks, listening to their reflections about what truly mattered.

What surprised her most was not what people regretted.

It was what they didn’t regret.

Very few people said they wished they had spent more time worrying. Very few wished they had carried more stress. Very few wished they had pushed themselves harder at the expense of their health.

Instead, the themes were remarkably consistent.

People wished they had:

  • Appreciated life more
  • Spent more time with people they loved
  • Wasted less energy on negativity and worry
  • Allowed themselves to be happier

In other words, many of the things we stress about daily lose their importance when viewed from a wider perspective.

That insight connects beautifully with the techniques we explored this week.

Gratitude shifts our focus to what is already good.

Mindful breathing calms the nervous system and reduces stress.

Visualisation trains the subconscious mind to look for solutions and opportunities.

These practices don’t eliminate challenges, but they change how we experience them.

And that change can make an enormous difference to our health, our relationships, and our effectiveness at work.

Three Key Takeaways

1. Small daily habits create powerful long-term change. Simple techniques like gratitude or mindful breathing may seem small, but when practised consistently, they transform how we think and feel.

2. Your mind is always listening. What you repeatedly focus on, positive or negative, shapes how your subconscious mind interprets the world.

3. Perspective changes everything. When we zoom out and look at life more broadly, many problems shrink, and opportunities become clearer.

Looking Ahead

I am delighted that Jake has already booked Masterclasses 3 and 4 for the 17th March, and I am really looking forward to working with the team again.

In those sessions, we will explore:

  • How to create a Vision Board to direct the subconscious mind
  • Practical ways to improve sleep quality
  • Techniques to get more done in less time
  • And strategies to overcome procrastination

These are powerful tools that help people move from simply coping with pressure to thriving despite it.

Simple techniques.

Powerful results.

Sometimes the smallest shifts in thinking create the biggest changes in our lives.

Thoughts for the Week

  1. What is one thing you are grateful for today that you may have overlooked yesterday?
  2. When stress appears this week, could you pause and take five slow breaths before reacting?
  3. What positive outcome could you start visualising today that your future self will thank you for?

Well, that’s it for this week.

Have a wonderful week ahead, and keep believing.

Warm regards

John
